Hellhole;ratRace at Blackbook

Hellhole;ratRace at Black Book Gallery Colorado

I was asked by a great human, great artist, Julio Alejandro to be part of a collaboration show of his pals. This is very touching..me grandfather age.. no ..great grandfather age. Many of the participating artists / collaborators were born after this turn of the century. It’s hard to get my head around ..now being 66. I am so grateful to be asked.

For the collaboration i gathered up some of my most treasured cameras and met at Julio and Dani’s cool studio. Julio’s concepts, we wrapped and piled and played with shower curtains and stuffed toy animals with out abandon.. Kinda childhood, model, murder and Madonna mix up . Our sitter on top of being a great artist Dani is breath taking beautiful, the camera loves her. I am proud to own a few of her works of art along side with Julio. And now this collaboration with the last of this instant film made no more. The end of an era. We made magic.

Andy Warhol’s camera.

We used a plastic Polaroid Big Shot camera cost under $20. It fit Andy in many ways, for one Andy was cheap. At that time (in the 1980s) i was taking tons of Polaroids with the great master piece of Dr Land , the Polaroid SX-70, One day at the Factory Andy handed me the weird plastic Big Shot camera and said try this one. The camera only will focus in one portrait framed distance, like a photo both or passport photo. ... makes everything very consistent and with the soft hard Magic Flash Cube. They are brilliant. The one focusing distance is what made all his silkscreen portraits consistent. Factory like 🙂  A majority of his paintings / portraits used this $20 camera / polaroids to make the screens.  He charged 25k for a sitting.
